How has religion impacted your LGBTQ experiences?
Religious teachings about LGBTQ are deeply embedded in the experiences of many of us, including Straight Allies. We invite you to share your stories and experiences during a Father’s Day Discussion hosted by the PFLAG Family Reunion Detroit Chapter and the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion.
This event is the last in a series of similar discussions with PFLAG Chapters around metro Detroit, and is particularly relevant in light of the recent horrific events in Orlando Florida last weekend.
This event is open to all LGBTQ and allies, and members of our various religious communities. There is no charge, and refreshments will be served.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled today that same-sex marriage is a constitutional right throughout the United States, striking down bans in 14 states. This is considered the biggest historic victory for gay rights advocates in the country.
Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote the majority opinion in the 5 to 4 decision. He was joined by the four more liberal justices of the court. Kennedy said “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family.” “In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were,” he added.
This decision finally comes after decades of protest and litigation on behalf of gays and lesbians. Today #LOVEWINS!
After thanksgiving and #blackfriday, people around the world are taking part in the global day of giving back: #GivingTuesday.
This year we want to take part and that’s why we ask you to support Not In Our Town. This movement is committed to ending hate in communities and schools across America.
During this week, after enjoying time with friends and family, help us spread the word about the campaign and the global day of giving. You can also share this post in any of your social media accounts. Safe towns and schools matter to all of us.
Don’t forget this week, #GivingTuesday, to donate to stop hate.
Together we can transform our communities!
